when talking to mike one night, i discovered that ends and means (as in “is the ends worth the means?”) is the same as names and faces.
so names are the same as ideals are the same as ends. and faces are the same as moments are the same as means.
the lines going up are the means, and the objects at the top, in the sky, are the ends. the white part is the ideal path and ideal end, and the black is our marred attempt at the means and reaching the ends. that's most of the symbolism, i think.
when thinking of the painting, i wrote:for anything:
- are the means (the process, the moments) enjoyable?
- is the end worthy? (is the goal valuable, lovable?)
so now i'm not trying to decide between one or the other. i'm trying to get both of those points for everything that i do.
